This presentation will outline what transformative professional learning (TPL) is all about relating it to learning theory. I will explain my rationale for selecting it for interrogation (relating it to my professional context) and provide a critical comparison of TPL against the Coaching/Mentoring model of professional learning provision.

Transformative PL is all about:
- the facilitator is a partner in the learning process and acts as a change agent
- a personalized, one size fits one approach is applied
- data driven and reflective inquiry (Action-Research model)
- new knowledge can lead to real transformation of learning
- issues of power are considered to ensure equity
- free-flow of communication and interactions
- there is an increased capacity for professional autonomy
